3 Simple Steps to Create Your Vision

3 simple steps to create your vision and manifest your dream career

I know that it seems trendy or cliché to have a vision board but what’s more important is having a vision for yourself.

Do you have a vision for yourself this year or in general?

Whether you do or don’t below are three steps you can take to ensure your vision is alignment with what you really want to manifest this year.

So grab a journal and begin to dive in!

  1. Step 1: Analyze your major life areas (your home, finances, career, family, friends, health/fitness, and personal development) and RATE them. Rate them from 1 to 10, 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.

  2. Step 2: Next List out the CORE values you want to embody this year

  3. Step 3: Look at your major life areas (see step 1), and choose 2-3 to work on. Do this by reviewing which ones you want to work on and which ones would have the most impact on your overall well-being.

Here’s an example: If my health/fitness is a 3 and all my other life areas are about 5 then that would be an area to look at. By improving your overall health and fitness you’ll have more energy to focus on your career, family, and other areas of your life.

Find a quiet place, 5-10 minutes and grab your journal so you can begin to create a Career Vision that aligns with your core values.

Step 1: The first step to creating your vision is to take an honest and candid look at your major life areas. Take a moment to think about your home, finances, career, family, friends, health/fitness, and personal development. And simply rate them from 1-10. One being the lowest in the sense of satisfaction and ten being 100% satisfied. Refrain from judging yourself. You may begin to spiral thinking about how you could have done things differently. Celebrate where you are now and that you’re taking steps to create a vision for your career.

Step 2: The next step is to take a look at your core values. What values do you want to embody this year? What is important to you. Here is a short list of core values.

Family, Freedom, Security, Loyalty, Intelligence, Connection, Creativity, Humanity, Success, Respect, Invention, Diversity, Generosity, Integrity, Finesse, Love, Openness, Religion, Order, Advancement, Respect, Joy/Play, Forgiveness, Excitement, Change, Goodness, Involvement, Faith, Wisdom, Beauty, Caring, Friendship

Step 3: Now that you’ve rated your major life areas and have identified your core values, it’s time to decide which 2-3 of these major life areas do you want to focus on to create your vision. When choosing which areas to focus on, it’s important to pick the ones that will motivate you and inspire you. Choose the ones that are important to you now, not what you believe you ‘should’ be doing.

Whatever areas you decide to focus on will be the right ones for you and the right areas for you. All areas of your life will help you grow and develop in your career as all areas in your life are related.

Now combine both of these to create vision statement for yourself.

A vision statement has the following:

  1. Describes what you want to achieve in the future

  2. Answers teh question “Where do I want to be?”

  3. Defines your desired future self/state – the mental picture- of what you want to achieve over time in the next year, 3 years, 5, 7 or more

  4. Inspires you to give your best and shapes your understanding of why you are doing what you do

A career vision is statement of purpose that provides you a clear and inspiring direction for your future. Below you’ll find some examples of different career visions. Use this as examples to give you direction but do not limit yourself to the language or structure. Your career vision is unique to you.

Example #1:

To touch the lives of as many people as possible, empowering them to achieve personal happiness and career success
